MONTERREY
The city of Monterrey, Mexico, is home to 2.8 million people. Monterrey is the heart of Mexico’s health care, technology and financial industries. It’s also a center for the best higher education in the country and in Latin America.
Sergio Handal, pastor of GCLA’s largest church (over 2,000 members) in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, decided to lead a church plant team to Monterrey in the beginning of 2006. God is at work! People are getting saved, more church plant team members are moving to help, more STM teams are coming, and friendships are being built with other churches and Christians in the city. |

The church plant team was pleasantly surprised of how friendly and open to the Gospels the Regiomontanos (nickname for people from Monterrey) are. People have been so eager to learn about the Gospel, that soon after they move, the church plant team started three small groups: a high school student small group, a college and singles group, and one for married couples.

Relational Evangelism
In partnership with U.S. STM teams, the church plant team visits the local universities and meets many students. Besides sharing the Gospel with the students, the team invites them to different outreach activities, such as soccer games, a trip to the caverns, dinner in the homes of the church plant team members, etc. Many of the students contacted show interest in getting to know the missionaries and developing deeper relationship with the church members.

Community Service
The U.S. teams also help the church plant team members to serve their neighbors and community through small community projects, such as, painting homes, cleaning the parks, and doing small repairs in the homes of church members’ neighbors. The missionaries as well serve in an orphanage of children with special needs. |
