EL SALVADOR

SAN SALVADOR
The church in San Salvador, with the help of U.S. missionary groups, has been very effective in reaching out to high school students. Many of these young believers are now going to college. The church’s goal is to start a strong college ministry with these students, since a strong college ministry will be a great support to the growth and development of the church.

Internet Cafe
The church seeks opportunities to share the gospel in the city through service oriented mission teams. Pastor Victor Turcios conducted a research in 15 colleges and high schools of San Salvador and found out that the most critical academic needs of the students are:

1.
To improve in their ability to speak and write the English Language.

2.

To improve in their ability to know how to use computers.

To help in this effort, mission teams will be able to teach English and computer classes in High Schools. Ability diverse mission teams will also assist in setting up a cyber cafe.

The church is planning to establish the cyber cafe in an accessible and strategic location. The cafe will be open during regular work hours, weekends and holidays, so the students may have continuous access to it. In addition to the cyber cafe services, the location will be available for church activities and meetings, such as leadership training meetings and other discipleship activities. Initially, church volunteers will be running the cafe. The mid-term plan is that the cafe becomes self-sufficient, and by then the goal is to employ personnel to operate it.

Medical and dental project
In obedience to the words of Christ: “Do not forget the poor”, the GCLA church has helped the poorest people in the country. From 2000 to 2003, the church focused on meeting the needs in poor suburban communities of San Salvador. The church also supplied housing materials to communities around the country that were affected by the 2001 earthquakes. Many of the beneficiaries accepted Christ, and began attending churches in their communities. Through this service, the church members have witnessed how the Gospel brings hope of a better life to hundreds of people.

The church needs short and long-term missionaries in these areas:

1.
Degreed doctors, dentists, and nurses who are part of the mission teams, in addition to the community work, can join a local team of doctors and dentists to provide medical and or dental services.

2.

People with the gift of entertaining children, can use their abilities in children’s festivals that the mission team does in the communities they serve. We need clowns, puppeteers, people who are good in making balloon animals, etc.

3.

Musicians and singers can be involved with the church’s band on the Saturday community outreach service.
